This weekend (October 18-22) an important convention is taking place in Austin, Texas. The National Lawyers Guild is hosting the Law for the People Convention that includes numerous panel discussions and workshops. Two major panels include:

The Surveillance State: Politics and Law. The panel will discuss the construction of a surveillance state in the U.S., government infiltration of political and activist groups, and the NSA warrantless electronic surveillance; and, analyze the current administration’s “unitary executive” theory of constitutional law.

Occupation and Resistance in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq. The panel is co-sponsored by the National Council of Arab Americans and will discuss how United States imperialism, fueled by global racism and capitalism, uses military occupation as a weapon to enforce its economic and political hegemony and prop up its allies throughout the world.
